Depict research 1
This was the first short film that attracted me to watch it. The name torn pulled me in as it symbolises breaking apart or tearing something away. The short film is based upon seeing a mother and father breaking apart but seen in a child's eye. I chose this film because of how well it is has a close up show of the child's facial features at the start of the short film. During this there is a pan shot, on where the child is shown to be running away from the shadows. I like how during this section that the shadows are becoming darker the more the pan is used along the screen. During the short film there is a long shot. In which this shows the surroundings of the child and emphasizes on the colours red and black. Black and red both symbolise death or in this case symbolises emptiness or heartbreak due to the parents both breaking apart. I love how every time the child is showing emotion due to the situation, the camera moves in to a close up of the face to emphasise on it even more than it already is. I like the part in which there is an over shoulder shot on what the child is looking at. This scene has a lot of emotion in due to the fact of the child seeing a happy family and then all of a sudden the happy family is changing in which causes the parents to break apart from each other. I like this short film because of how much emotion is expressed inside and how the main focus and moral to the film is the child and their emotion to the situation that there parents are creating for the child. I also liked how the film is based upon the child. By how the film is produced it shows how it could be a dream for the child by how the shadows of the parents are chasing after the child and how the flashbacks of the happy family to the unhappy family flashes through shows how it could be shown through the child's mind, upon which this changes the view by how the ending connects with the start in which the parents actually break apart and making it seem like a true story rather than a dream.
